GUIDANCE AND COUNSELLING DEPARTMENT REPORT

 

The school Guidance and Counselling program is comprehensive. It involves academic, social and career guidance. The general goal of this program is to assist students achieve the greatest personal value from their educational opportunities.

The school affirms that parents are the students’ first teachers and the school serves to strengthen family and parental support.

 

This department is manned by the following members:

 

1. Miss. Nancy Muiruri {HOD}

2. Miss. Susan King’ara

3. Mr. Zablon Githambo

4. Mr. James Macharia

 

OUR STRENGTH

 

i} Well focused school administration that support the counselling program by educating

    the members in seminars and courses.

ii}Experienced committee members.

iii} United members of the staff that assist in guidance in various levels.

 

ACTIVITIES

 

i} Orientation of form one students on admission.

ii} Guiding and counselling students with academic and social needs.

iii} Arranging for external counselors to talk to the students.

iv} Guide candidates on better study habits and other topical areas to let them have focus.

v} Guide the students on career choices.

 

 

CHALLENGES

 

i} Students not willing to come forward for counselling.

ii} Time limit

iii} Lack of enough reference materials

iv} Locality – Many students being day scholars.

                    - Poverty in the area.

 

 

WAY FORWARD

 

i} Sponsoring of all the members to various seminars wherever they are called upon.

ii} Train Peer counselors.

iii} Have more external counselling.

iv} Increase reference materials

 

RECOMMENDATION

 

i} Parents encouraged to be in touch with their children, knowing their strength and

    weaknesses.

ii} Teachers encouraged to keep on guiding the youngsters.
